A Madison Ballet internship offers students a unique opportunity to develop nonprofit administration skills while working in a professional performing arts organization. It also helps students to become familiar with the organizational skills and routines needed to effectively support an organization like Madison Ballet.
Interns are asked to work approximately 10-20 hours a week through the semester, and interns are unpaid (although free show tickets and other employee perks are available). There is an interview and evaluation process if the student is using the internship for school credit. Interns will be expected to demonstrate individual initiative and assume specialized duties respective to one of the following areas:
The Development Office initiates annual individual, foundation, and corporate fundraising campaigns to help support the performance and educational programs presented to the community. Duties include planning and assisting with special projects, performances, and events, clerical record management, planning meetings with key staff and community volunteers, as well as specific jobs decided upon by the General Manager.
Madison Ballet's Marketing department is responsible for devising and executing public relations, marketing, social media and advertising strategies to promote performances and events programmed by Madison Ballet. Interns could have the opportunity to acquire on-the-job experience in the fields of Marketing, Public Relations, Communication, and Design and will be expected to do a share of clerical work, as well as assist in all events and performances.
Production/School of Madison Ballet Intern
The Production/School of Madison Ballet Intern will assist in all manner of production and event needs, at the direction of our Program Services Coordinator. Productions can occur at the Overture Center, Bartell Theatre, and various venues across the state. Additionally, work with the School of Madison Ballet will be required. The School of Madison Ballet opened its doors in the fall of 2005 and has since welcomed over 1000 dancers into its studios to experience the benefits of comprehensive programs for children, families, and dancers. The intern will gain experience in organization and maintenance of a studio, and planning for school-centered events and future needs.
