Apprentice - Mary Elizabeth Bastian, a native of Rochester, New York, began her training at the Draper Center for Dance Education and the Rochester City Ballet under artistic director Jamey Leverett.
In 2013, Ms. Bastian was awarded scholarship to continue her studies at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University where she earned two Bachelor of Science degrees in Ballet and Exercise Science; Kinesiology. While at the Jacobs School, Ms. Bastian studied under Patricia Blair, Paul Boos, Christian Claessens, Daniel Duell, Heather Hawk, Sasha Janes, Sandra Jennings, Glenda Lucena, Nilas Martins, Victoria Simon, Twyla Tharp, Violette Verdy and Michael Vernon. Ms. Bastian completed summer intensives at the Draper Center, Boston Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and Ballet West.
Ms. Bastian performed with The Rochester City Ballet in Cinderella, Firebird, The Nutcracker, the world premiere of Jamey Leverett’s The Blood Countess and George Balanchine’s Serenade. At the Jacobs School of Music, she performed in Michael Vernon’s The Nutcracker, Marius Petipa’s La Bayadère and Giselle, George Balanchine’s Emeralds, Rubies, Swan Lake, Concerto Barocco, Raymonda, and Divertimento, and Twyla Tharp’s As Time Goes By. This is Ms. Bastian’s first season with Madison Ballet.
