Kelanie Murphy is from Crystal Lake, Illinois, where she began her formal dance training at Judith Svalander School of Ballet. She continued her training at the University of Missouri Kansas City’s Conservatory of Music and Dance where she had many performance opportunities.
While at UMKC, she was also an apprentice with Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company and performed with the Kansas City Ballet. After graduating magna cum laude with a BFA in dance, Ms. Murphy joined the Minnesota Ballet where she danced for four seasons. There she danced in Penelope Freeh’s Two Andantes, Ginger Thatcher’s Five O’clock Fox Trot, Robert Gardner’s Recurrent Stages and as The Arabian Princess and Ice Fairy in Allen Field’s The Manhattan Nutcracker.
Ms. Murphy then joined Madison Ballet, and she has danced as a Bride in W. Earle Smith’s Dracula, Arabian in the The Nutcracker, and as Titania in excerpts from Peter Anastos' A Midsummer Night's Dream. She has also enjoyed working for New York State Summer School of the Arts and for Summer Dance Company in Atlanta, Georgia. Additional training includes summer programs at Kansas City Ballet and Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet. This is Ms. Murphy's third season with Madison Ballet.
