Kelanie Murphy / by William Smith

Kelanie is from Crystal Lake, Illinois, where she began her formal dance training at Judith Svalander School of Ballet. She continued her training at the University of Missouri Kansas City’s Conservatory of Music and Dance where she had many performance opportunities. While at UMKC, she was also an apprentice with Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company and performed with the Kansas City Ballet. After graduating magna cum laude with a BFA in dance, Kelanie joined the Minnesota Ballet where she danced for four seasons. There she danced in Penelope Freeh’s Two Andantes, Ginger Thatcher’s Five O’clock Fox Trot, Robert Gardner’s Recurrent Stages and as The “Arabian Princess” and “Ice Fairy” in Allen Field’s The Manhattan Nutcracker. Kelanie attended summer programs at Kansas City Ballet and Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet. Kelanie has also enjoyed working for New York State Summer School of the Arts and for Summer Dance Company in Atlanta, Georgia.
