Admission

School of Madison Ballet

SMB is an equal opportunity school and does not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, race, religion, nationality, or sexual orientation. Applicants may be accepted with or without previous dance training. Upon placement, participants in SMB programs must pay an annual registration fee and tuition for instruction.

Children's Division

Registered applicants ages 2 to 6 are generally placed in the Children’s Division without further evaluation.

Student Division/Pre-Professional Division

School of Madison Ballet

Except for students choosing to study through the Open Division, all applicants age 7 or older will be placed in a level after taking an audition and placement class. The purpose of this evaluation is to determine the class level that will most benefit each student. Students are placed according to their technical proficiency, strength, and individual potential. Following the placement class, students are notified of their assigned class level, the number of classes required per week for that level, and any other applicable information. Placement is based solely on ability, not age.

Audition and placement classes may be scheduled with the SMB office at 608- 278-7990 ext. 228. Registration for specific class times and days is on a first come, first served basis after placements are made.

Students entering the School Division or Pre-Professional Division during the year will be evaluated during a regularly scheduled class based on previous dance training as documented on the registration form. Once the student’s division and level are determined, the resulting class schedule will be applied, and tuition will be calculated. Tuition for students enrolling after the start of the school year will be prorated.

Open Division

No auditions or placement classes are required for the Open Division.
