The Children's Division provides students up to age 6 with a solid foundation in ballet fundamentals while also inspiring a life-long love for dance. These classes are a prelude to formal ballet instruction and introduce children to music and movement through a structured progression that stresses creativity and group interaction. Age-appropriate exercises allow safe practice of the basic shapes, positions, and postures of classical ballet.
SMB's curriculum is designed to integrate the creative and academic experiences of students entering their primary school years by including elements of geometry, anatomy and linguistics. Musicality and dynamics of movement are stressed as the students gain more control of their bodies. Classes are age-based and typically require a commitment of one quarter (approximately 9 weeks). There are four successive Quarter sessions during the Academic Year Program. Dancers are welcome to enroll at any time, space permitting.
